Whereas 68% of families gave in 2003, only 56% did so in 2015. Call me Chicken Little, but I’m afraid. And maybe you should be too. For over 15 years the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy (Indiana University) has tracked the giving of nearly 10,000 families and individuals in the US. Their newly released data is here — Generosity for Life. The bad news is that American generosity seems to have peaked … in fact, it did so in 2005, when average giving was $1,024.
