No donor wants to make a donation

Fundraising Coach

Years ago, I wrote about Zig Ziglar teaching that nobody wants a drill. He said millions of drills are sold every year. But no one wants a drill. They want a hole. The same is true with donors. No donor wants to make a donation. Donors want the value the donation will make. So tell them about that. Tell them about the change their gift will make. (Or Or that their gift has made.) Get your organization out of your nonprofit's storytelling. Instead, tie the donor directly to the impact.

Three Steps to Build Meaningful Relationships in Life (and with Your Donors)

Fundraising Report Card

Philanthropy tends to be fairly transactional — I give you some money, you send me a year-end appeal — and less relational — I give you some money, you ask me about my life story and connection to your mission. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly in Year-End Fundraising – Part One

Ann Green

At the end of November, I made year- end donations to 25 organizations. Because I was worried about people who would be left behind in the new administration, 11 of these were new donations. Some organizations are doing a better job of communicating than others.

Are you a BFF?

I've been seeing a disturbing trend of late: a sharp rise in what I call are BFFs: blunt force fundraisers. Nonprofit leaders willfully skipping planning to jump straight to asking.
