By instituting the fine, the daycare center switched rulebooks, from social norms, which are governed by values of community, selflessness, and altruism, to market norms, which are governed by calculated self-interest. An interesting group of people from HHS, FEMA, FBI, FDA, USDA, DHS, PAHO, NACCHO, NAGC, CDC, Cisco, Red Cross, NPR and Fox News (DC) - and you know you are truly 'inside the beltway' if you get all those acronyms ( and if not, try here ). Then it struck me that it could be of particular interest to any American donors (or donors anywhere I guess, but the organisations included are all US non-profits) wanting to get the new year off to a good start by refreshing the portfolio of charities they support. My portfolio is shown above.
The current situation may not be so much a crisis as a paradigm shift. More than once, I have heard from non-profit fundraisers that Gen Yers just don't "give," and therefore are not really a generation that is interested in "giving" or has not yet developed an interest. Transitioning them to care about more "global" issues and to volunteer for causes they may not benefit them directly.

Every once in a while I manage to get out of the house early enough to tune in to the Marketplace Morning Report on my local NPR station. The second part was much more interesting to me. But I suspect that this may not be true with Gen Yers (this is just a theory-I have NO proof of this whatsoever). Sound familiar? Great!
