And, even more significantly, major news outlets like NPR, the LA Times and the Christian Science Monitor picked up on the controversy.  Here's a a fantastic model of an organization linking its issues to a major news event to generate headline attention. Shortly before Groundhog Day, PETA took on the Punxsutawney groundhog club, blogging its call for groundhog (and more broadly, animal) rights in a blog post.

Here’s a true story, as related by Dan Ariely on NPR . This was a tough year-end for a lot of fundraising organizations. Time for some sober reflection and some self-honesty. Let’s start by admitting that the fundraising pyramid is a lie. Most

NPR simply could not do it without you. Wow - yesterday’s post about thank you notes and the lack thereof got the conversation started! Thanks to everyone who took the time to add some thoughts to the debate.
Last week, driving home, listening to NPR , I heard a fascinating tale about a lady in Texas who decided to get over her divorce by throwing herself into gardening-at her rental property. When her landlords gave her 30 days to get out, the lady posted a desperate plea on a gardening forum: what would happen to her hundreds of day lilies? Now I am not making up what happened next: dozens of Texas gardeners got in their trucks and drove over to this lady's house (and we all know Texas is not a small state, so who knows how long some of these people had to drive) and over the course of
Last year, NPR built a hurricane emergency online community site for free in one weekend, and asked the public for help. flickr/askpang Many nonprofits are in crisis mode these days. Still, it pays to remember that “crisis” is derived from two Greek words meaning “a turning point” and “to decide” (not “the sky is falling”).
