Customers spread the news of cool hangouts or great places to shop, flag meet-up spots for friends, visit new places for points and revisit favorites to retain their title of mayor.
For example, this past summer my nonprofit did a pinup program with four New England businesses: Tedeschi Food Shops , Ocean State Job Lots , iParty and The Upper Crust . Of all the different social media tools I’ve tried (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, blogging, etc.),

The good news is it worked. We have a local food show here in Boston called the Phantom Gourment that we’ve partnered with to work on their outdoor BBQ event this summer that attracts 50,000 people. Yesterday was the first day everyone from the team was back in the office from the holidays so it was a good time to catch up about our cause marketing resolutions for 2009. I’m unsure how much I’ve told you about my team in the past but it’s comprised of a wonderful group of marketing, sales and event professionals who plan and execute multiple cause marketing

TweetDeck is great to help me keep on top of legislative news, learn about food bankers across the nation using Twitter, and find the latest local news and buzz.
Asking someone to donate to the Food Bank because of the impact hurricane evacuees have on your community, or because children don’t have access to school meals in the summer is a heckuva lot more compelling than just a general ask. We can see from this week’s Facebook debacle that social media clearly become a critical part of any organization’s overall marketing strategy. With one post
