This photo is by churl on Flickr . I'm finishing up Inbound Marketing | Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs by the fabulous folks at HubSpot . The thesis of the book is that it's far more effective to acquire new donors, members and advocates by getting them to come to you (via Google, social media and blogs) vs. Instead, you need to create interrupting people (boo!) with unwanted emails, telemarketing calls, and radio and TV spots (even if you could afford them).

It seems to be integrated with a Facebook app that pulls info and photos from your profile. This video series goes further as it incorporates photos and other personal info (privacy issues are another matter, for another day). In addition, MoveOn makes it extremely easy to share the video via social media platforms with a single button to push to embed the video in your Facebook page and an easy form that generates the code you need to embed your video in a blog post. I immediately clicked on the email invite to to the latest in MoveOn.org 's "you're in the news" video video series.

What I take away from both the Web site and Cathy’s answers is how integrated each facet of the project is–from the TV series, to leveraging social media through video, photos and text, to the universal concept of parenthood–all the way to identifying a non-profit that has a strong family strengthening initiative–it’s smart. SB: How did you decide to involve people through social media–and how did you choose which social media to include?
In the midst of reflecting on Pepsi Refresh, Disney and other CSR efforts , I received an email about another project with a social message– NBC’s Parenthood Project that worked in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Dave Evans, author of Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day, for a social media intensive I taught recently at the Academy for Nonprofit Excellence. a social media maven and well-practiced at breaking down what often
seems our ideal guide to social media.

Common denominator here, beyond marketing expertise, is that all three women are all boldly plunging forward into the wild west of social media. the challenges they've found in moving that brand into the social media
world Flickr photo: Denis St. Talk about a branding brain trust! I had the pleasure of designing, and participating in, today's NTC session starring nonprofit communicators Danielle Brigida, National Wildlife Federation; Felicia Carr, National Parks Conservation Association; and Wendy Harman, American Red Cross.

This week, attention turns to what the media is saying about you, and next week—what the Web is saying about you, and what your peers and competitors are up to.
Media Analysis
You all know your local media outlets, and you should be continuously tracking coverage of your organization and issue in them through Google alerts. flickr/iirraa
Last week I provided guidelines for assessing the communications that you control.

Once, when I was representing social media on an arts marketing panel, a fellow panelist said to me, one-on-one, something along the lines of “ okay, but how does this sell tickets ?” The longer answer is about social media metrics and the complexity of conversation, and it’s not really an answer. There is a lot of great writing and research out there, by people like Beth Kanter and Rachel I guess I didn’t get that point across! I gave him the short answer .

However it became crystal clear that although Diva Marketing celebrated its 5th blog-birthday my social media network is more global than local. What is happening in Atlanta social media marketing? Where are the Atlanta women in social media marketing? " A couple of weeks ago Mashable held a smashing mash in Atlanta for over 400 of its closest friends .. who signed up before the fire marshalls could call Stop!

Many nonprofits have already dipped their toes into social media. Or they put event photos on Flickr, or buy a Flipcam to get videos on YouTube. But first, understand that social media is not about marketing, it’s about community . To succeed with social media, you have to genuinely appreciate the idea of community—offering help and value with no expectation flickr/luc legay
They see others doing it and figure they should be doing it too.

Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn and YouTube are sites that are in the broad category of “social media.” Social media sites are sites that make it really easy for people to connect with other people. And social media sites often have made-up names or names with weird spelling like Plurk or Flickr . I was just on a call with fellow members of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy folks when someone asked, “Does anyone here use Twitter or Facebook ?”
It appeared I was the only one.

The strategic use of social media is about changing your perspective, not using new communication tools. The talks I give about social media and social marketing these days focus almost exclusively on the shift we need to make in how we think about interacting with people formerly known as the audience and much less on the tactics, or how to use specific social and mobile media tools. But the pace of adoption of social media in public health and social marketing Fortunately, in the past four years, many social marketers and change agents have emerged to fill in those gaps.

Before my boss left for vacation last week he said to me: “At the retreat I want you to talk about how we can use social media for prospect research, fundraising and advocacy.” wasn’t surprised that he asked me to talk about social media. But then I realized that while I was an avid user of social media I had more questions than answers about social media. A summer ritual here on the development team is planning for the next fiscal year, which begins October 1st. Part of that planning process involves a half-day retreat for directors at my boss’ house where
