Nieman Lab did a six month experiment trying to get nonprofit news in with the Associated Press. It didn’t work. At all. Facebook.

The Best from the Nonprofit Marketing Community

I was just on a call with fellow members of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy folks when someone asked, “Does anyone here use Twitter or Facebook ?”. Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn and YouTube are sites that are in the broad category of “social media.” Millions of people are using sites like Facebook and Twitter.
But in today’s world, it’s wise to consider complementing these appeals with tools like Facebook and Twitter. To get even more sophisticated, you might want separate pages for each type of media you use: one you’ll promote on Facebook, one you’ll promote on Twitter, one you’ll promote with email, etc.
I’m thrilled with the increase in Twitter usage I’m seeing! If people are using Twitter, they know their comments are public. Twitter is a fun space to put out things you’re thinking and to retweet other people’s wit and wisdom. But the power of Twitter really multiplies when you reply to those tweets.
