I took some advice from Rich Brooks at Flyte several months back and focused my efforts on three social media sites: Facebook , Linkedin and Twitter . I’m active on all three now, but the one I got on to last is the one I’m spending the most time on these days: Twitter . (You like Twitter for two reasons:
You can check my most recent ”tweet” in the red box on the sidebar. Click on the arrows to see previous tweets.)

There has been a lot of discussion this year about the potential value of microblogging service Twitter to nonprofits , so I’d imagine there will also be a lot of interest in the latest version of the Twitter-based virtual currency – the Twollar .
Described as “a currency of appreciation” for Twitter, the idea is that every Twitter user is given 50 Twollars and can then use these to thank or reward other people who use Twitter – perhaps in thanks for a particularly useful Tweet or as a reward for engaging on a website.
But the interesting thing is that you can also give your Twollars to a charity which uses Twitter – by sending a Tweet as shown in the screengrab above.

My condolences if you've spent any of your life in a meeting that was about whether your organization should have a Twitter account.
have yet to see a nonprofit use Twitter in a way that's even close to justifying the small amount of time they're putting into it. There's some insight into that from the What's Next Blog, Top 10 Reasons Your Company Should Not Tweet .
I Part of the problem may be the way they're approaching it.

So it was with a big "here we go again" sigh that I signed up for a Twitter account about 6 months ago. I first heard about Twitter probably over a year ago-as is with most things Web, I can't pinpoint exactly where I heard about it, but my first reaction was: "Why would I want everyone to know what I am doing at any given moment? in microblog format-you only have 140 characters, so better make it short and sweet-is something a lot of people, and companies, love doing. (pic from Twitter.com) One thing I have learned over the past few years, is even if you areI am not interested in using something personally, as a marketing professional it is my responsibility to understand it and try to figure out how my organization or my clients could use it.

Online research and measurement company comScore just released the findings of a study into UK social networking site usage which provides a good picture of just how mainstream social networking has now become – with an incredible 80% of the total UK online population (aged 15+) apparently having visited at least one social networking site in May 2009.
Also interesting to see figures for the growth of Twitter – up a phenomenal 3,226% year on year. As you might expect, the most active users are still in the 15-24 age group, with 86% of them visiting social networking sites and spending an average of 4.6

Social networking website gurus, Experience Project , on this past Thursday August 6th launched a brand new Twitter campaign called TwitCause designed to raise money for nonprofits through the Twitter website and its users (TwitCause is not really a Twitter application such as TweetDeck or Twitter On Facebook are - it's more of a proposition for Twitter users to join in on their effort to raise donations for nonprofits). If you are not a Twitter user - Twitter is a networking site that offers free accounts to anyone who wishes to join (like My Space

It’s often the way with things like Twitter that you tend mostly to hear stories about how well people are using them. With this in mind, it’s worth taking a quick look at a free report just released by PR Agency Webber Shandwick entitled ‘Do Fortune 100 Companies Need a twittervention?’ 8217; – because their research revealed that as much can be learned from what big US companies are doing wrong as from what they are Which can leave you with something of an inferiority complex about the fact that you haven’t actually had time to begin testing them properly – because you’ve been too busy raising money.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the site integrates flickr and youtube, and uses the standard “ ShareThis ” feature to allow visitors to do just that, through facebook, twitter, Google, etc. Facebook, twitter, etc. How about a link to #MoMA on Twitter Search , in addition to the museum’s own twitter page ? On Friday, the Museum of Modern Art launched a redesigned site , seeking to take advantage of the plethora of social media tools now available. The look and feel of the site is attractive and modern.
