Of particular note for this forum is that social marketing has been included in the list to be forwarded to the Department of Health and Human Services for final clearance and approval this Fall. As many of us celebrate this accomplishment, I want to extend my thanks and props, first and foremost, to Bob Marshall for his untiring efforts and perseverance to co-lead our work with the HC/HIT workgroup and organize the outreach to the social marketing community and stakeholders during the public comment period. In a process that began more than 15 months ago , the US national health objectives are beginning to take final form.

The campaign was a great boost for Foursquare as location based services were all the rave at SXSWi this year. Kerrie LeBourveau , a member of the StudioGood team that executed the campaign, explains.
“It was a great way to energize an already active community. The Foursquare Checkin for Charity campaign at SXSW 2010 I first reported on last week was a big success for the Save the Children Haiti Relief Fund .
By the end of SXSWi , attendees had logged over 135,000 checkins on Foursquare.

Don't get me wrong--I'm a big believer in building relationships, and community, online. Event-management service Eventbrite has just introduced Eventbrite for Causes , a discounted program (no fee for free events) are designed for nonprofit needs. In a time when we rely more and more on virtual interaction, face-to-face gatherings are more important than ever. But face-to-face can't be replaced.

Stephanie Strom wrote States Move to Revoke Charities' Tax Exemption , published February 27, describing how poor states are seriously considering charging taxes to the nonprofits within their jurisdiction (which of course are granted the benefit of tax free dollars in reciprocity for the services and programs that they provide to communities at no or low costs to beneficiaries). In a recent post of The Cohen Report, Social Entrepreneurism at the Public Trough , Rick Cohen shines a flashlight on the primary form of entrepreneurism of many of the leading national community service groups: Federal government funding. and Public Allies and more), and the leaders of the group of extraordinary national service organizations created mostly during the 90's (Teach for America, City Year, etc.) I don't think it'snecessarily a bad thing, but I do I agree that it is important to be out and honest about this.
