Technical social media channel setup? I’ve witnessed plenty of these “so-called” experts come into organizations (based on poorly written RFP’s asking for “experts”) armed with nothing except the knowledge of how to setup a blog, Twitter account and maybe even a Facebook page as they proudly give out their new “social media expert” business cards.

For a while, most questions one would hear about Twitter would be "what is it?" Most webinars I've sat in about Twitter fundraising have included basics of the Twitter world, like how to post, reTweet, and, in some cases, redirect people to your fundraising page. Recently, I came across (thru Twitter of course) a case of an organization that has moved far beyond these basic steps to develop a fully integrated, Twitter-based fundraising campaign from Operation Smile (@operationsmile on Twitter for those of you with Twitter accounts). One social media channel we discussed as a best-practice example was the ever-popular Twitter . The shear amount of real-time conversations happening on this channel during disasters or conflicts is absolutely incredible. What’s more, all of these conversations can be filtered to your heart’s content using Twitter Advanced Search . For the first time ever, the majority of my online business communication this year (or conversation rather), occurred on channels other than email. My big three channels are now Twitter , LinkedIn and my Blog . needed an effective mobile way to manage the numerous government and client department back-channel Twitter conversations that I had set-up on my laptop using Tweetdeck. I recently switched smartphones (now representing 50% of the worldwide cell phone market ) from RIM ’s Blackberry Storm to Apple’s iPhone 3GS . Why did I do it,

Social media channels are highly measurable when proper objectives are set ahead of time
Rather than logging into Facebook, Twitter, Jaiku, Bebo, etc…you simply log into one LifeStream application such as FriendFeed or Plaxo and all your updates are aggregated into a new custom “lifestream” feed.
Twitter and microblogging in general. Over the course of the holidays I took some “unplugged” time to do some reading and play guitar. My intent was to clear my mind a bit and get my thoughts settled for what looks like a busy 2009 year coming

You can connect your blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Integrate what you put out there by using an editorial calendar, while at the same time, recognizing which channel is best for what (e.g. Don’t think of your website as something entirely different from your e-news, or your e-news as entirely different from your Twitter feed. Tomorrow I’m presenting a brand new webinar on How to Integrate Your Website, Email Newsletter, and Social Media Sites . I was pleasantly surprised to find that the site integrates flickr and youtube, and uses the standard “ ShareThis ” feature to allow visitors to do just that, through facebook, twitter, Google, etc. Facebook, twitter, etc. You can access MoMA’s youtube channel from the communities page, but you can’t upload your own videos or see others’. On Friday, the Museum of Modern Art launched a redesigned site , seeking to take advantage of the plethora of social media tools now available. The look and feel of the site is attractive and modern.

think it will be a good test area as we connect with mommy-bloggers and twitterers to drive traffic to the event. You have to apply to get your own channel. Video can be added to anything–but I do like the Youtube channel idea.
