When anyone discusses nonprofit operations or nonprofit fundraising and says something to the effect of, 'nonprofits do not operate in a vacuum; they exist, grow, and succeed only by working with the communities that they serve' the key word in the concept is 'with'. won't know about the organization and then can not support it.
Nonprofits who are needing and wanting to increase the services that they provide, improve those services, and increase community support (such as donations and numbers of volunteers) need to do exactly what those organizations who are surviving this down economy are doing. This kind of community support CAN NOT be squandered. Succeed.

It is no wonder that webcasts have exploded in popularity among the engineering community over the past decade - companies, trade magazines, and event trade show organizers now offer them as another venue for engineers to gather information.  And they can be interactive - webcast hosts often offer Q&A opportunities during the event.
Never forget that while the nonprofit provides for the community, and is granted tax free dollars because it does; it is a business. They research the causes that they wish to fund to find the recipient who does the job best. The question is: are you doing enough, today? Donors, today, are more savvy than ever. honestly. and so on.
At the end of the day, while having a thoughtful and well-executed marketing strategy is critical, if every employee and every customer interaction is not aligned to the brand, not only is a huge opportunity missed to reinforce the marketing message and strengthen the brand, but likely the brand will be or is already damaged from the broken promise.
